2019 Young Artists Competition Announcement & Application Form

Open to instrumentalists and vocalists residing in Kitsap County, Belfair, or Gig Harbor, aged 18 or under on the competition date of March 16, 2019.

The Bremerton Symphony is looking for exceptional young musicians, one or more of whom may be selected as winners. Winner(s) may be invited to perform on the Bremerton Symphony’s Subscription Series, May 18 and 19, and/or Chamber Concert June 2, 2019. Additional winners may be invited to perform in a future concert.

This season we ask for Concertos (Arias, Songs, etc. for vocalists) for the May concerts and Solo Works including Sonatas, Suites, Arias, Songs, etc., for the June concert in two divisions: Junior = up to age 15 on March 16, 2019; and Senior = up to age 18 on March 16, 2019. Winners will be selected from both divisions.

Guidelines: This competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists who reside in Kitsap County, Belfair, or Gig Harbor. Contestants are responsible for bringing their own accompanist (required) and works selected for performance must be available to Bremerton Symphony Association. There is a $35 application fee and the applicant’s music teacher must sign the application.

Deadline for application has been extended to February 15, 2019. Late applications will NOT be accepted. Applications may be submitted online or by US mail. Please note that your application and the application fee of $35 must be received by close of business, Friday, February 15, 2019. We offer a sibling discount of $20 for the second student from the same family.

The previous year’s winner is not eligible to win but may compete for adjudication and the chance to perform on a Bremerton Symphony Concert.

Process: Each applicant will have seven minutes to perform followed by three minutes of adjudication. Adjudication will be by a panel of judges chaired by the Music Director of Bremerton Symphony Orchestra. The decision of the judges is final.

NOTE: All pianists who appear with Bremerton Symphony will be expected to perform on the piano provided by Bremerton Symphony Association. Pianists who prefer to use a different instrument will need to provide their own piano and will need to cover any and all costs associated with the use of a different piano. These may include; rental fees, moving, storage, venue fees, and tuning.
